Created by Audaz in partnership with Poro Filmes, the short film “Conselhos” was created for the 1st Brazilian Autism Awareness Campaign
The J Clemente Institute announced the launch of a campaign that aims to raise awareness among the population about the late diagnosis of autism.
The short film “Conselhos”, created by Audaz in partnership with Poro Filmes, is part of the 1st Brazilian Autism Awareness Campaign and presents testimonials from people who received a late diagnosis of the condition, showing the reactions of each person by hearing questions and receiving advice from your own child version created using artificial intelligence.
“The material draws attention to late diagnosis, to the importance of early diagnosis and to breaking down prejudice regarding autism, since many people believe that people with autism are just those who don’t speak or don’t sit still,” he explained. Vincius Gandolph, senior writer at Audaz, who used his experience of being the father of an autistic person to write the film’s script.
In the short, the characters are invited to occupy seats in an empty auditorium to review photo albums and remember challenges and milestones in their lives when they had not yet been identified with ASD. Afterwards, they are surprised to see their own image with voice and movement projected onto a large screen.
“All the reactions and words contained in the film are genuinely spontaneous. The emotion was real. In addition to the protagonists, relatives and friends who were watching behind the scenes, were moved and brought to tears”, said Vanderlei Almeida, head of Creation and Strategy at Audaz, and one of the short’s screenwriters.
At the same time as it draws attention to the importance of early diagnosis, the film highlights the positive transformation in the lives of those who discover their condition in adulthood.
The voices of the animations are from professional announcers invited by Poro Filmes and the soundtrack was produced by Felipe Engel, from the production company Liquo Audio.
“It became clear that, precisely at the time they needed it most, due to the absence of a diagnosis [muitas vezes por preconceito e ignorncia das pessoas ao redor], they were unable to receive the affection and advice they so needed. With this in mind, we decided to use artificial intelligence to recreate their childhood versions and give the protagonists the opportunity to tell themselves everything they wanted and needed to hear”, detailed Almeida.
Until November 30th, the 30” version of the film can be seen in most Cinemark, Kinoplex and PlayArte cinemas throughout Brazil. The full version is available on the IJC YouTube channel.
