O Globe Group announced an agreement to broadcast, exclusively on all platforms, all 32 games of the 2024 Copa América. In this way, the tournament is back on Globo after the broadcast made by SBT in 2021. Next year’s edition will have the participation of 16 teams and will be played in the United States.
TV Globo will show Brazil’s three games in the group stage, in addition to two quarter-final matches, the two semi-finals and the final. J o Sportv broadcast all 32 clashes. For the next few years, in addition to the Copa América, Globo will broadcast Euro 2024 (together with the CazTV) and the 2026 World Cup.
SBT and Globo have been in a broadcast dispute for some time. In 2022, after two years with the rights, SBT lost the last Libertadores (2023) for Globo. J in the case of Champions LeagueSBT emerged victorious and agreed to renew the broadcasting rights for the network’s open TV UEFA Champions Leaguethe main competition between European clubs, for another three seasons.
For the 2024 Copa América, Globo outperformed competition from SBT, which was also competing for the rights, as already mentioned. In Brasileiro 2023, the rights also belonged to Globo, in addition to other women’s and men’s competitions that were broadcast on both channels.
We cannot forget that this year, Globo will be responsible for broadcasting the Club World Cup, which will be played in Saudi Arabia. O Fluminense debut in the competition on the 18th.
In the end, considering open, closed and streaming, the broadcasters (SBT and Globo) had a balanced dispute, both in terms of rights and in terms of audience.
Audience at the Brazilian 2023
Closing the 2023 Brazilian Championship, the last round yielded Globo an average of 23 audience points in So Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In the field, the Palm trees confirmed the title of champion by drawing with the cruise 1-1, at Mineiro, in Belo Horizonte.
