Last Thursday night (7), the winners of the WHEXT Awards 2023 were announced, an award that values advertising audiovisual production, at the festival’s closing ceremony, held at the British Brazilian Center. THE WHEXT Back To The Future is carried out by the Brazilian Association for the Production of Audiovisual Works (APRO) in partnership with FilmBrazil, a Brazilian audiovisual internationalization platform developed in partnership with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).
The 6th edition of the festival, in addition to the partnership with ApexBrasil, was sponsored by Spcine, a public company that promotes cinema and audiovisual from the City of São Paulo; from Shutterstock and Esferas. The festival also had support from AdsMovil, Affinit, Ampfy, Arquivo da Propaganda, At FIVE London Dry Gin, Café Royal, D&AD, Dirty Work, Hotel Canopy, Extreme Reach, GoAd Media, Meio & Mensagem and Satelite Audio. The entire event was covered by young talents trained by Instituto Criar.
The opening of the WHEXT awards ceremony Back To The Future was created by singer Alice Caymmi. Afterwards, Marianna Souza, executive president of APRO and head of WHEXT, presented the awards to the winners of the 6th edition of the ceremony.
The award is highly anticipated by everyone in our sector, as it is the only festival that gives light to professionals who are often invisible. It’s time to bring together our technical teams and celebrate the craft and our production market, without forgetting, of course, the winnerssays Marianna.
This year, in addition to the awards, the event featured an installation with the most emblematic films of the last five decades, as a way of celebrating APRO’s 50th anniversary and recovering the memory of advertising production. THE WHEXT Back To The Future also reinforced the ESG pillars, especially Social and Governance, through content focused on ageism, the movement against audiovisual harassment (Cut!) and the promotion of new talent in the market.
As a way of bringing the international market closer to national professionals, the festival also brought the WHEXT Connection business round, held in partnership with ApexBrasil. International guests had the opportunity to explore locations in the city of So Paulo.
The international market has shown itself to be increasingly promising. Last year, associated producers exported a total of USD 34 million. The capital of São Paulo is one of the main destinations for international productions in Brazil with 25% of the total number of films, second only to RJ. Therefore, transforming WHEXT into a business platform is essential to expand exchanges between Brazilian and foreign professionals, adds Marianna.
Throughout the day, the British Brazilian Center received 600 people, who attended seven panels and five workshops, with the participation of 31 speakers, three of whom were international guests. 25 business rounds were also held, bringing together nine companies.
Among the highlights of this edition are the lectures Ageism, challenges and opportunities in the Audiovisual Marketwhich featured the participation of women 50+ Camila Faus, Krishna Mahon, Isabela Mendes, Egnalda Crtes and Candice Pomi; Career Acceleration Diverse Voices in Audiovisual, powered by Spcine, with Marina Baio, Luciana Bobadilha and Lorrana Souto; MeToo Brasil & Cut! Renewing the Commitment of the Anti-Harassment Pact in the Audiovisual Market, with Marina Ganzarolli, president and founder of MeToo Brasil, and Marianna Souza, executive president of APRO & Spokesperson for the Corta! Movement; It is The impact of Artificial Intelligence on audiovisual productionwhich had Matthew Loranger, Domnico Massareto, Eduardo Acquarone and Janaina Austin as speakers.
