NBA initiative promotes development with sports, free classes and equipment for children.
The American Basketball LeagueNBAin collaboration with theInstitute Gerando Falces, inaugurated the new court in Brazil, this Tuesday (12). The location chosen to host the court was A Favela dos Sonhos, in Ferraz de Vasconcelos in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo.
With the location chosen by the platform that renovates courts across Brazil, the NBA Station, the fruit of the partnership with Gerando Falces is located at EMEB (Escola Municipal de Educação Bsica) Professor Nurimar Martins, being available not only to the school’s students, but also also for community residents.
We are excited to join forces with the influence that the NBA represents, as we are convinced that, through this project, we will be able to make positive changes in the lives of the people involved”, said Edu Lyra, CEO and Founder of Gerando Falces.
The community is among the pioneers in the country to be impacted by the Favela 3D initiative, a project aimed at restructuring communities, seeking to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants by bringing dignity, development and digitalization.
The arrival of the NBA in such a special place as Favela dos Sonhos only reinforces our commitment to sport and society. Being alongside Gerando Falces and being able to lead a structure that will impact the lives of hundreds of people is a source of great pride for all of us, said Rodrigo Vicentini, Head of the NBA in Brazil.
The court project was created together with the school’s students, who contributed their drawings of what they would like the court to look like. From this interaction, artists Cain and Gelin harmonized ideas and included elements of interaction with children.

The NBA and Gerando Falces will offer free weekly basketball classes to 80 children in the region annually, in addition to providing NBA quality sports equipment for practicing the sport.
Local teachers will be involved in the project, being prepared through the Jr. NBA platform. In addition, they will also have access to content that features the participation of renowned world basketball icons, such as Alessandra, Alex Garcia, Anderson Varejo, Clarissa, Guilherme Giovanni, Helen Luz, Hortência, Janeth, Magic Paula and Oscar.
