According to Abecs, 36% of the population intends to spend more this year compared to 2022
Christmas 2023 promises to boost the country’s commerce. According to a survey carried out by Abecs, an association that represents the electronic payment sector, it was found that the date is expected to generate R$43 billion in gift purchases.
According to the analysis, carried out in partnership with the Datafolha Institute, 3.36% of the population intends to spend more this year compared to 2022, which will bring the average amount that Brazilians must pay to reach R$418 .
“The Abecs survey shows that 63% of the population intends to buy gifts at Christmas, which is, without a doubt, one of the most important dates for commerce”, stated Ricardo de Barros Vieira, executive vice-president of Abecs.
Still regarding purchasing intentions, 27% of people indicated that they plan to spend the same amount and 32% want to spend less.
According to the analysis, credit cards will be the preferred payment method among consumers, with 38% intending to use them. Cash appears next, with 35%. The list is completed by Pix (29%), debit card (23%), bank slip (2%) and store card (1%).
Among those interviewed who intend to use a credit card, 74% said they intended to pay in installments for their purchase.
Within the age group, 78% of the younger population (18-24) said they intended to buy a gift this Christmas. Next are people aged between 25 and 44 (72%), between 35 and 44 (64%), between 45 and 59% (60%) and over 60 (48%).
