O Spotify is taking its partnership with Delta to new heights with the release of a new docuseries called ‘The Passport Sessions’. The series brings together songwriters, producers and artists from cities around the world that share similar cultural identities, dubbed “twin cities”, to create new music while exploring the influence and impact that different musical genres have had on different locations and cultures around them. of the world.

The pilot episode, titled From Miami to Medellin, features two Miami-based artists, Andy Clay and Maye, traveling from Miami, Florida, to Medellin, Colombia, to meet and collaborate with local artists Juan Duque and Aria Vega. During the 18-minute episode, viewers can see the songwriting process as the artists explore the architecture, food, language and other elements that define Medellín’s vibrant culture and ultimately inspire the music they create together.
“The program expands your vision. You don’t just need to think about making music for Medellín. We incorporated sounds that are happening in Miami, in Europe. This is important because it tunes your ear. And, in the end, help our careers continue to evolve”, says Andy Clay about the experience at The Passport Sessions.
Aria Vega talks about how her culture influenced the music created in the episode.
“I feel like my culture influenced the music we wrote at camp because the language and expressions used are a real part of how we express ourselves in Colombia. Also, Afrobeat is very strong on the Caribbean coast, so it was cool to have a little influence from that,” said Aria.
Juan Duque explains what music to do for him.
“I learned to make music by telling my stories. Music is my escape valve. my authenticity, I express my happiness and sadness, and people can relate,” says Duque.
Singer and songwriter Maye highlights the importance of making music with other artists.
“The best part about making music with others is that you put your ego aside to exchange ideas and experiences to create something incredible,” explained Maye.
The full episode premiered this Monday (8) on Delta’s in-flight entertainment, giving the company’s passengers a behind-the-scenes look at how music travels around the world and its influence on different cultures.
