In a simulated documentary, the brand associates its fire-grilled burgers with the island’s active volcano.
O Burger King Brazil has proposed changing the name of a remote island to Whopper Island. The place, between Madagascar and Antarctica, currently called McDonald Island, is full of ice and surprises with the presence of an active volcano. With the action, the brand associates its fire-grilled burgers with a place with real fire: the only possible name for the Whopper place.
In the campaign, created by DM9, Burger King Brasil invites consumers to participate in the request by helping to change the name of the Island: simply open Google Maps and type “Ilha Whopper” to locate the island and comment #IlhaWhopper. With this, the customer will receive a discount coupon via email for R$15 on Whopper to use at BK Delivery.
In an advertising piece, Burger King Brasil simulates a documentary giving more details about the region and a special delivery: as only authorized people can set foot on the island, and in order not to disrupt the region’s ecosystem, B Brasil sent, in the film, a drone with Whopper for researchers working to preserve the local fauna and flora.
If anyone deserves a hot, grilled hamburger over the fire, it’s the team that takes such good care of the island and the volcano, joked Juliana Cury, vice president of Marketing and Sales at ZAMP, the master franchisee of Burger King and Popeyes in Brazil.
