Always linked to social causes, the “queen of the favela” Ludmillais a brand SBP to raise awareness among the population about diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. The singer is the new ambassador of the social impact movement ‘Juntos Contra o Mosquito’, which promotes combat, prevention and education initiatives for highly vulnerable communities affected by cases of arboviruses, such as Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya. The project has existed since 2017 and has already impacted around 120,000 families across Brazil.
Lud is the first artist to act as an ambassador for the cause. In addition to being recognized for her musical career, being the first black woman in Latin America to reach 1 billion listens on Spotify, according to data released by the platform, her image is also linked to social causes. Alongside her mother, Silvana, she participated in the program ‘Minha Mãe Cozinha Melhor Que a Sua’, TV Globo, and together, they decided to donate the prize to Casa 1, which welcomes LGBTQIAPN+ people. She has also donated entire concert fees to social causes and promoted one of the largest blood donation campaigns in Brazil in partnership with Hemorio.
Ludmilla’s connection with the favela is also part of the singer’s career. Born and raised in Duque de Caxias, a municipality in Baixada Fluminense, she remains in touch with her roots and seeks to bring cultural and leisure initiatives to her community, such as on the last Children’s Day, when she organized a party on the street where she grew up and held an exclusive show for local children.
As an ambassador, the artist will produce, over the next three months, content for social media explaining the importance of preventive measures to avoid the proliferation of and contact with Aedes Aegypti, a mosquito that transmits vector-borne diseases.
“This campaign is important to remember how careful we must be, so that the dengue mosquito does not proliferate. These are simple precautions that, if included in our routines, reduce the risks, and we will have a calmer summer, which is the period with the highest incidence of dengue fever”, declares Ludmilla.
The ‘Juntos Contra o Mosquito’ movement also has a partnership with the Central Única das Favelas (CUFA), which has promoted cleaning efforts and door-to-door visits within communities, with prevention measures and distribution of SBP products, which offer protection complete against disease-causing mosquitoes. In addition, it has also offered cultural and leisure activities, such as outdoor toys for children and battleships. slam with local artists.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared that Brazil is the country most affected by dengue outbreaks recorded in the Americas in 2023. According to the arbovirus monitoring panel made available by the Federal Government, more than 1.6 million cases were recorded and 1,094 deaths from the disease. High temperatures, increased rainfall, lack of access to basic sanitation and misinformation about prevention are some factors that can favor the proliferation of disease-transmitting mosquitoes.
