Everyone was talking about the Oscar nominations this week. Despite having my reservations about the film, everyone knew that Oppenheimer would have the largest number of indications. There were 13, followed by Poor Creaturescom 11. Flower Moon Assassins had 10 and Barbie 8. Especially the absences of Barbie director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie. Margot’s case is even more striking, since she was on all the lists – and was considered a certainty by the majority. It seems like a message – like women can make films, but it’s not the most profitable film of the year, right? Not to mention that she had already been left aside with Babilnia last year, where it was sensational, last year (when I still think about Michelle Yeoh taking the statuette, the outrage was even greater).
Other snubs
Another one who was left out was Leonardo Di Caprio. A shame, because I think that in Flower Moon Assassins he has one of his best performances (only second to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). Others that were incredibly left out with no nominations were Saltburn (coincidentally produced by Margot Robbie), Lenny Kravitz (by the pipes of Rustin), and Pedro Almodovar (for the short Strange Way of Life ) e Air: The Story Behind the Logo. J Secrets of a Scandalwhich was almost certain to receive a supporting nomination for Julianne Moore, was left with just a screenplay nomination.
Well, when was the Oscar fair? I think the last time I agreed with the best film choice was with Spolight, lol. And it’s been a while! I also believe that the tradition will not be broken this year, since the long Oppenheimer the big favorite. The ceremony will take place on March 10, once again with a presentation by Jimmy Kimmel, and will be shown on TNT and HBO Max.
