Sport is an important tool for social transformation and inclusion, capable of strengthening individual pillars such as motivation and overcoming. In February, when the 10th edition of the Rio Openthe public will be able to watch, for the first time, the Wheelchair Tennis Elitepresented by ALLOSwhich brings together world elite wheelchair tennis athletes.
The unprecedented tournament, sponsored by ALLOS, the most innovative services, entertainment, lifestyle and shopping platform in Latin America, takes place from February 22nd to 24th, at the Jockey Club Brasileiro, within the main event schedule. Among the big names in the line-up are the Brazilian Daniel Rodrigues, the Japanese Shingo Kunieda, and the British Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid, who have just won the Australian Open doubles title. Kunieda is considered the greatest wheelchair tennis player in history and the record holder for Grand Slam titles in all of tennis, surpassing even names like Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams.
ALLOS’ debut as a sponsor of the competition reinforces the company’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion. The Rio Open, the largest tennis tournament in South America, has an accessible structure and follows the norms and standards established to facilitate the movement and accommodation of people with disabilities.
Sport has the ability to enchant, impact and transform people’s lives, pillars that we consider fundamental in the daily life of our shopping malls. We are a platform that receives 60 million people per month and, therefore, we see ourselves as a powerful channel of awareness and communication. It was with this inspiration that Shopping Leblon, one of the main destinations in our portfolio, has supported the Rio Open since its first edition, 10 years ago. And this year, ALLOS is strengthening this partnership by sponsoring the Wheelchair Tennis Elite tournament, with tennis players in wheelchairs for the first time in Brazil, which reinforces our care with the topic and commitment to increasing accessibility in our shopping malls, reaching 100% by 2030. Personally, as a wheelchair user, I know the challenges we face and understand that in this way we can also value sport as a tool for overcoming and transforming, in order to build a more inclusive and inspiring future for everyone, says the CEO of ALLOS, Rafael Sales, who is also a former jiu-jitsu practitioner and sports lover.
In addition to sponsoring Wheelchair Tennis Elite, ALLOS will be present at the Rio Open with a closed stand for guests. The space will broadcast live matches and have an exclusive bar, in partnership with Gray Goose, in addition to distributing personalized gifts, such as a gift bag kit and Trousseau towels.
The lounge represents the hospitality always present in ALLOS projects. an urban refuge with nuances of a natural oasis and a design designed to bring enchantment to our visitors, says Ana Paula Niemeyer, the company’s Marketing Director.
To connect the city’s public to the event, Shopping Leblon will dress like the tournament, in addition to hosting the Rio Open exhibition between January 20th and February 4th. In the free exhibition, located on the L1 floor, customers will discover curiosities and see up close items from champion tennis players, such as Rafael Nadal’s Coin Toss, Dominc Thiem’s final ball, Christian Garin’s final wristband and the tennis shoes and Cameron Norrie’s final shirt. There is also a sensory area with players’ hands, among other attractions.
The inclusion of the Wheelchair Tennis Elite tournament in the Rio Open 2024 is a significant milestone, highlighting the commitment of the event and its partners to promoting diversity in sport. Among the goals for 2030 announced by ALLOS is to achieve 100% accessibility in all its shopping malls, thus playing an active role in building a more egalitarian society.
