A Make-A-Wish Brazil, an organization dedicated to making the dreams of children with serious illnesses come true, ended 2023 with remarkable work. Last year, the NGO fulfilled 268 children’s dreams from all Brazilian states, an achievement that represents 16.5% above expectations for the period and a growth of more than 30% compared to 2022.
Headquartered in So Paulo, the state was the one with the largest number of dreams, followed by Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. In the Rio-So Paulo axis, all dreams were realized in person, while in other locations, remotely. Whether physical or digital, for Make-A-Wish Brasil, presenting a complete journey to children is essential, thus ensuring that their journeys are fueled by positive and memorable experiences.
A dream does not correspond to just one day. a customized journey of preparation and experience that translates the objectives of Make-A-Wish Brasil: to take the child out of the perspective of the disease, with its limitations, anxiety and sadness involved and take them to the positive perspective of dreaming and believing, explains Thais Bernardini, executive director of the organization.
In 2023, in addition to donations, sponsorships and volunteers, events and collaborations with brands allowed more dreams to be realized. Make-A-Wish Brasil was, for example, at Bloomin Day, Outback, promoted a charity Beach Tennis tournament and developed a campaign with restaurants, Wish Dish. The organization also teamed up with PACCO to launch a special collection of thermos bottles, allied with Yuool, a sustainable tennis brand, and participated in actions with the Disney Brazil, a global partnership that has lasted for years.
Since 2008, when it arrived in Brazil, the NGO has fulfilled more than 3,600 dreams, which are divided into four categories: Being, Having, Going and Knowing. According to a survey carried out by Make-A-Wish America with Wish Kids parents and the medical community, 98% of doctors observed that the dream journey has a positive impact on the child’s physical well-being, while 90% affirm the importance of this experience for children. overcome feelings of sadness, hopelessness, anxiety, loneliness and depression.
Therefore, in 2024, Make-A-Wish Brasil continues with the mission of transforming even more lives around the country and spreading the message of the importance of dreams not just for children, but for everyone.
