Paramount Studios has officially confirmed the production of the third Sonic movie. The franchise that started in 2020 with the first title in the adaptation of the classic blue hedgehog game series will get a sequel this year, however fans can celebrate because it won’t stop there.
Sonic the Movie was a good deal for the studios. The production cost about $35 million according to unofficial estimates, and grossed more than $300 million at the box office worldwide. The company’s high expectations for the franchise meant that the third film was confirmed even before the release of the second.
This is not the first time recently that Paramount has confirmed the sequel to a production even before the release of its predecessor. In addition to the third Sonic movie, the Halo series, also an adaptation of a video game franchise, had its second season confirmed even before the first was released.
In addition to the film, the company also confirmed a spin-off series on its own streaming service, Paramount+. The production will focus on the character Knuckles, who will appear in the next film in the saga, Sonic 2. The character, which is already known by long-time fans, will be voiced by Idris Elba.
It is not yet known which actors returned for the third film. Sonic 2, on the other hand, will have the presence of Idris Elba, like the aforementioned Knuckles, in addition to the return of the actors from the first film. Ben Schwartz voices the protagonist hedgehog and is accompanied by James Marsden, who plays police officer Tom Wachowski. Jim Carrey also returns as the villain, Doctor Eggman.
