This Tuesday (5), the Facebook, Messenger e Instagram went through some instabilities, being off the air for a while. Meta said it resolved a technical issue that caused the apps fall. Users from all over the world were left without access for around two hours. When trying to log in to websites and applications, they encountered error messages and were unable to update their feeds normally.
Threads, your rival from X , launched in 2023, also reported outages. WhatsApp, also run by Meta, was not affected. The company apologized to those affected, saying it resolved the issue as quickly as possible. After all, Meta’s platforms are some of the most popular in the world. Facebook has three billion active monthly users, while Instagram is expected to reach 1.4 billion worldwide later this year.
Unusually, the problems coincided with login issues on Google’s platform, suggesting a common cause between the outages at two technology conglomerates that largely control their own infrastructure.
The biggest disruption Meta has experienced was in 2021, when a configuration error in a little-known protocol called BGP led the company to accidentally delete its own address from systems that allow servers to communicate on the Internet. At the time, Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp and Instagram services were down for almost six hours.
