The 2024 Oscars had few surprises. As expected, Oppenheimer was the big winner of the night with seven statuettes, including film, director (Christopher Nolan) and actor (Cillian Murphy). I disagree with most of them, however it was predictable that this would happen. Poor Creatures, my favorite, it won four awards. The most important of them, best actress for Emma Stone. It was great news, since the category was the most disputed between Emma and Lily Gladstone, who is much more of a supporting character in Flower Moon Assassins. Alis, it’s e Maestro They left empty-handed, which is unfair.
Award highlights
As in the old days, several winners used their awards as a stage for their political positions. Jonathan Glazer, director of the best foreign film Zone of Interest, he spoke about violence in the Middle East and drew parallels with the message of his production. Mstyslav Chernov, director of the documentary 20 Days in Mariupol, He talked about Russia’s war with Ukraine.
- Billie Eilish became the youngest winner to win two Oscars, after winning the Oscar for best song with What was I Made for? , of Barbie (she already had one No Time to Die). At the same time, Hayao Miyazaki, at age 83, became the oldest winner in the animation category for The boy and Gara.
- I’m Just Ken (Barbie) may have lost the Oscar for the song, but the musical number led by Ryan Gosling was historic. For me, it was the best moment of the party.
- The return of the format of five former winners in the acting categories to talk about the current candidates was great. In the case of a supporting actress, it was exciting.
- Some jokes were sensational. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny de Vito (the Twin brothers) playing with Michael Keaton (both were defeated by Batman). And Kate McKinnon with Steven Spielberg, and John Cena remembering when a naked man invaded the Oscars stage in the 70s.
- In Memoriam had a beautiful surprise with Andrea Bocelli singing Time to say Goodbye next to his son, while photos of those who were lost appeared on the screens.
TNT’s terrible broadcast
However, the big negative point of the party was the responsibility of TNT, which broadcast the event. The technical staff didn’t seem to get it right with the timing of the Oscars in Los Angeles. It won an award (animated short film) and also the beginning of Da Vine Joy Randolph’s speech as best supporting actress. Not to mention the beginnings of each of the awards returns after the commercials (they even cut the entrance of Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy). But the worst of all were the two boring presenters (Aline Diniz still seems to be trying to keep things interesting). But Ana Furtado and Andreia Horta just kept saying things that weren’t at all relevant to anyone who was interested in the Oscar party. They got on your nerves. I miss Rubens Ewald Filho immensely.
