Now, the bill goes to the US Senate
The United States Chamber approved, this Wednesday (13), a project that could ban TikTok throughout the North American territory. In the vote, 352 deputies were in favor of the ban, while 65 were against it.
The project will now go to the Senate.
The text foresees banning the Chinese app in online stores; However, the parliamentarians’ condition was that the platform be spun off from ByteDance, the Chinese controller, and that it have an owner in the United States.
According to the deputies, TikTok represents a threat to national security, as China could use its laws to force the provision of data collected by the application.
