O AfroGamesinitiative of the AfroReggae which encourages the presence of young black people from favelas and peripheral areas in e-sports, was present at the Game Developers Conference 2024, the largest annual event for electronic game developers, which took place in San Francisco, California (USA), between the 18th and March 22nd. AND The Apothecarya beauty brand that has been part of this universe since 2021 and has several initiatives aimed at the public gamercame back as a supporter of the project, covering travel expenses to guarantee AfroGames’ second consecutive participation in the GDC.
This year, the representatives were Carlos Azevedo, director of Marketing and Communications, and Luca Alves, professor of Games Development and general coordinator of the project, who were at the event with the mission of doing business with large companies present. Furthermore, Carlos and Luca provided exclusive coverage of GDC 2024, in partnership with O Boticrio, which can be seen on the official AfroReggae and AfroGames profiles on Instagram.
“Our main goals at this year’s GDC were business e networking. During the event, one of our focuses was to sit down with big brands with the aim of bringing new products to AfroGames.

Furthermore, we came to update ourselves and acquire as much knowledge as possible over the five days of the event, to bring to our students in the project, in a didactic and pedagogical way, the innovations and technologies that the main developers in the world are using”, said Luca Alves.
For Marcela de Masi, executive director of Branding and Communications at Grupo Boticrio, it is very important that the brand is connected with initiatives such as AfroGames, which democratize access to culture gamer and bring knowledge about relevant topics in this universe to young people.

The executives present at GDC 2024 are proud of the work done during the event. Between meetings with major developers, lectures and highly valuable dynamics, the most impactful moment for AfroGames representatives was the recognition of what is being done within the project.
“On several occasions we were approached by representatives of large companies from Brazil, Asia and the United States who congratulated us on the work that AfroGames does, providing access and a mega infrastructure so that young black people, from favelas and peripheral regions can digitalize and enter the market gamer. Hearing this was very gratifying”, concluded AfroGames Marketing Director, Carlos Azevedo.
