In 2019, the project Donate Goalsa partnership between the Sportv, Centaur e Play For a Cause, was born with the proposal to educate children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability, through football. Even today, each goal scored in the Serie A games of the Men’s and Women’s Brasileirão is equivalent to three pairs of sneakers, destined for different Brazilian NGOs, spread from north to south of the country, impacting more than 15 thousand people. This year, in celebration of the project’s sixth anniversary, the creators mobilized the world of football for another major solidarity campaign, which will involve several actions in specific games also in the Brasileirão series A.
The clubs that joined the cause will choose an NGO to support and will develop actions to benefit it when they host the matches. The players’ uniforms will be printed with a Doe Goals commemorative patch and, after the final whistle, the shirts will go up for auction on the Play For a Cause platform, a company that uses sport as a tool for social transformation. The money raised from the auction will go to the NGO supported by the project and the club that chose it.
Another action carried out on the days of the commemorative games will consist of welcoming children and teenagers from the benefiting NGOs, giving them the opportunity to watch the match at the stadium.
“This campaign aims to expand the social impact generated by football in various ways. The idea of taking children from the chosen institutions to watch the games from inside the stadium is a way we found to make their dreams come true. Many of these children have never had the opportunity to watch a live game”, comments André Georges, founder and CEO of Play For a Cause.
Furthermore, the stadiums will be decorated with campaign flags and banners, while the screens will broadcast an explanatory video of the work of Doe Goals produced exclusively for the occasion. Until the end of the championship, around two to three actions will be carried out per month.
“The partnership with the clubs is a great step forward for Doe Gols. The engagement of fans and their passion for their favorite team helps to increase the generation of resources for the project and allows us to reach more and more young people across Brazil, providing opportunity and dignity”, says Thiago Mattos, Marketing specialist at Sportv.
Debut match
The debut game of Doe Gols’ 5th anniversary campaign was held by Atlético Mineiro, on 17/04, at Arena MRV, in Belo Horizonte. The match against Criciúma, valid for the second round of the Brasileirão, had the participation of 37 children from the Escola do Futuro project, from Morro do Papagaio. The institution is supported by Instituto Galo, the club’s social arm, and serves around one hundred people, aged between 7 and 18. In the project, beneficiaries participate in sports activities, psychological support and social education workshops.
After the end of the game, 16 shirts worn by Atletico players (eight starters and eight reserves) were made available for auction on the Play For a Cause website. The amount raised will be directed to institutions supported by Doe Gols.
