According to state data, more than one million people were affected by the rains, 156,056 are homeless and 48,297 are in shelters
The number of victims of the floods that have hit Rio Grande do Sul since the beginning of last week has risen to 90 and, according to the state government, another 131 are missing and 362 injured.
Images of water invading homes, stores, restaurants, stadiums and even airports have marked televised broadcasts and guided discussions on social media. According to surveys, more than one million people were affected in 397 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul, while 156,056 are homeless and 48,297 are in shelters.
As a result, a solidarity network was formed and has both entertainment names and companies taking the lead to help the affected population.
Amidst the calamity situation, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, opened a PIX key so that people can make their donations (CNPJ: 92.958.800/0001-3).
Whindersson Nunes, Felipe Neto, Anitta, Luísa Sonza, Ramana Borba and Gisele Bündchen are among the personalities who are mobilizing.
In addition to them, the Underfoot teamed up with the band Fresno and will promote, this Tuesday (7), a live broadcast to raise funds for donations for flood victims. During the broadcast, Lucas Silveira, Gustavo Mantovani and Thiago Guerra will receive other songs and artists such as Júnior Lima, Estevão Tavares, Dinho Ouro Preto (Capital Inicial), Lucas Inutilismo, Ludmilla, as well as Igão, Mítica, Diogo Defante and Thaís Diegues, from Rango Brabo, and Jukanalha, from Quebrada FC.
The live will be broadcast on both the Podpah and Fresno channels and on the hub’s profile on Kwai.
The band created a PIX key ([email protected]) to receive donations, which will be forwarded to institutions that are taking the lead in mitigating the effects of the tragedy.
Correio announced that agencies in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, Bahia, Pernambuco, Paraná and the Federal District, in addition to part of the units in Rio Grande do Sul, are receiving donations for victims of rains. The state-owned company will collect and transport donations free of charge – there will be no cost to donors.
Central Única das Favelas (CUFA) is using its social networks to publicize the different ways it can help. Donations can be made at the institution’s headquarters — and other partner entities — and via pix: [email protected].
Among companies, the Cimed mobilized to donate R$ 1 million in medicines to Rio Grande do Sul. The pharmaceutical company will also write off payments for purchases made by pharmacies affected by the flood, replace lost goods and reduce the price of products for consumers.
In addition, around 72 thousand packages of wet wipes were also donated by the company and can be collected free of charge by the population at pharmacies in the São João and Panvel chains.
O Free markettogether with Mercado Pago, announces measures to support the population and, as part of its efforts to help communities affected by the rains, will donate R$1 million to the NGO Ação da Cidadania with the aim of providing immediate assistance to the most impacted.
The resources will be used to purchase kits of emergency items such as mattresses, blankets, drinking water, basic food items, bed-table-bath items and personal hygiene. The delivery of the kits will be managed by the entity itself, in collaboration with the Brazilian Air Force.
Mercado Pago users can also contribute amounts from R$5 through the “Donate” button, a permanent feature within the digital banking application. The amounts will be used to help families at risk through the NGO Ação da Cidadania.
O Santander announced the first measures to adapt deadlines and conditions for customers across the state affected by the rains. In the case of individual accounts, the bank will reduce interest rates by up to 20%, with up to 40 days to pay the first installment, and this money will be credited instantly via the application.
With a credit card, the customer will be able to extend the invoice billing period from 10 to 24 installments, with a discount on the fee and card limits will be maintained throughout the month of May.
Another measure is the FGTS. If the customer has a balance and subscribes to the birthday withdrawal, they can do so directly from the application. The bank also announced measures for small, medium and large companies and agro customers.
In addition to customer support measures, Santander created a Humanitarian Aid Fund, the value of which will be fully used to ensure that its employees, service providers and affected communities have support to recover from material losses.
Each real donated by employees, in internal mobilization campaigns, will receive a contribution from the Bank in the same amount, doubling all the resources collected, which will be fully reverted to entities in the public sphere and the third sector.
The Fund will have, among its priorities, supporting the reconstruction of affected locations. Santander also remains committed to directing its teams’ efforts towards reestablishing and maintaining the provision of essential services to the population.
In the services sector, the Legion of Good Will (LBV) collected more than 20 tons of supplies that are being sent to families. In addition to the essential items, letters made by children at the LBV School in the capital are being sent, seeking to bring a little comfort in the midst of this tragedy.
Even so, the LBV is receiving donations at its collection point, which is located at Avenida Rudge, 763, in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, from 8 am to 8 pm. Items that can be sent include mattresses, pillows, bedding, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene supplies, drinking water and non-perishable food.
