The bill now goes to the Chamber of Deputies
The Senate approved, this Wednesday (15), the bill that requires a daily fine to be paid to companies that fail to comply with so-called ‘counter-advertising’, which aims to clarify consumers about misleading advertising.
According to the project, the daily fine must be stipulated by the criteria established in the Consumer Protection Code, according to the severity of the infraction, benefit obtained and the economic condition of the supplier, with the amount reverted to the Diffuse Rights Defense Fund or funds state or municipal consumer protection.
Counter-advertising aims to undo the negative effects of the dissemination of misleading or abusive advertising, in order to correct the information given to the consumer about the purchase of a certain product or the provision of a certain service.
The project was approved by the CTFC at the end of 2019 and, as it was final, it would go directly to the Chamber of Deputies.
