A ASICS and the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) launched the first uniforms for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The event took place at the Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo (SP).
Developed in collaboration with the athletes, the Paralympic delegation’s pieces will be sold for the first time. The collection includes a podium jacket, sweatshirt, t-shirts, polo shirt, tank top, shorts, pants, leggings, sneakers, backpack, socks, cuffs and cap.
The models feature accessibility details, such as pants with zippers on the lower side to make it easier for athletes with prostheses, backpacks with straps on the handles and internal braille labels, highlighting the corresponding colors and helping with clothing selection.
“Our idea was to bring a series of attributes designed for accessibility, which firstly has an important functionality for whoever uses the piece and that we can actually make life easier for people with disabilities who come here to wear these uniforms. And also from an aesthetic perspective, having these elements is part of the style of the piece and the collection”, explained Felipe Pontual, creator of the project.
The event featured the participation of 11 athletes, including gold medalists from the Tokyo 2020 games, such as taekwondo fighter Nathan Torquato and weightlifter Mariana D’Andrea. Until August this year, CPB will promote another event to publicize other pieces that will be used in Paris.
The Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) expects to call up around 250 athletes for the Paris Games.
The Brazilian delegation, to date, has ensured its participation in the following modalities, with 160 athletes: athletics, swimming, sitting volleyball (men’s and women’s), goalball (men’s and women’s), blind football, cycling, horseback riding, canoeing, rowing, taekwondo, shooting, archery, bocce and table tennis. The final call will be made in three parts by July.
