MOOD monitoring shows a 90% reduction in racist attacks and a 45% reduction in hateful interactions.
A LaLiga reported a significant 90% drop in incidents of racism on social media compared to the second half of last season. The monitoring, carried out by the league itself in conjunction with MOOD (Monitor for the Observation of Hate in Sports), examined more than 21.2 million interactions this season and showed a 45% decrease in hate speech.
The overall hate index reduced to 6.5, a drop of one point from the last assessment. For LaLiga, this reduction demonstrates that fans are increasingly committed to promoting football without prejudice. Of the interactions monitored, 4.1 million were associated with hateful content, representing less than 20% of the total. Messages containing racism constituted just 1.2% of that number. Each message was scored according to the severity of the speech detected.
The highest rates of hate speech were recorded during the classics. However, the most recent classic, which took place in April, had the lowest rating of the last two seasons, with 6.4. The rounds with the lowest indices, between 4 and 6, occurred during moments of achievement, gestures of fair playsolidarity and farewells to coaches and players.
The implementation of MOOD is part of the LaLiga VS initiative, a LaLiga project with clubs that seeks to combat and eradicate hate inside and outside football, promoting respect and social inclusion.
