Men’s sneakers are buyers’ favorite, representing more than half of sales.
A Nike leads in sales through OLX in the first three months of the year, among famous sports and casual sneaker brands. This is what the study of the largest classifieds marketplace for used products, cars and real estate in Brazil reveals. The North American manufacturer represents 36% of sales, ahead of adidas, with a 20% share. Together, the two brands account for 56%.
“Sneakers have long left the sporting world to become established as symbols of style, expression and status. According to data from Euromonitor, the sports footwear market generated US$ 164.6 billion worldwide in 2023, growth of 8.5% compared to 2022. In Brazil, it was R$ 16.1 billion, an increase of 9. 1% in the period. The OLX study shows that it is possible to find second-hand sneakers up to 54% cheaper through the platform. The marketplace is an important channel especially for collectors, and it is an opportunity to earn extra income for those who want to let go of unused shoes”, says Regina Botter, general director of OLX.
Still in the sales ranking, the Vans occupies third position, with 8% of sales. Mizuno e Asics share fourth place, with a 6% share each.

Nike also leads among the most sought after brands, followed by adidas, in second place, Vans in third and Mizuno in fourth.
When evaluating the most advertised on the platform, the top three are repeated: Nike, adidas and Vans. In fourth place are sneakers from Puma.

Men’s sneakers predominate
The OLX study also evaluated sneaker sales by gender in the first three months of this year. Models categorized as male represent more than half of sales, while female models, which occupy second position, account for 30%; children, in third, represent 11%.

One piece of information stands out: sales of children’s sneakers grew 19% compared to the first quarter of 2023.
In the search ranking, the scenario is similar: men are in the lead, women are in second place, followed by unisex and then children. The models classified on the platform as unisex were the ones that recorded the greatest increase in searches, reaching 4% in the comparison between the first quarter of this year and the same period in 2023.
Men’s sneakers are the most advertised, followed by women’s. Children’s sneakers come in third place, but they were the ones that grew the most in advertisements: an increase of 23.2% compared to the first three months of 2023.

Average price and savings
The OLX study also evaluated the average price, considering the sneakers sold by each brand. Fila models cost, on average, R$124 on the platform, 54% cheaper than new versions, the highest percentage of savings in the ranking. Nike models are found, on average, for R$190 on OLX and are 24% cheaper.

In São Paulo, the most populous state in the country according to IBGE, Nike leads sales, with 38%. adidas comes in second place, with 18%. Vans models come in third place, with 9%.
The first three brands repeat their positions in the advertised ranking. Highlight for Vans, whose advertisements for the brand’s sneakers grew 40% in the first quarter, compared to the same period in 2023.
How to make an online purchase more safely
• Answer any questions via chat and the platforms’ official channels, avoiding taking the conversation to messaging apps, counting on OLX support and contextualized tips throughout the journey;
• Pay attention to the purchase completion stage and do not continue if you identify any suspicious behavior;
• Do not disclose your personal data or your cell phone number;
• Be wary of prices or offers that are far below the market;
• Check information about the seller on the platform, such as account length;
• OLX offers OLX guarantee, a service through which it is possible to pay for a purchase through the platform, without having to make transfers to third parties. As soon as payment is confirmed by OLX, the buyer receives a confirmation message directly in the ad’s chat;
• Always ask for the invoice for the item you are negotiating. This way, there is certainty about the legality of the product’s origin and, if it is still under warranty, it is possible to access official technical assistance;
• In the case of an in-person purchase or delivery, choose public and busy places, such as squares, shopping malls or subway stations. And, if possible, always go with another adult;
• OLX does not have partnerships with mobility applications, such as Uber, Rappi and 99. For sales and purchases with the OLX Guarantee, deliveries work throughout Brazil via Correios, Jadlog, Click and Collect, Loggi and R3 Transportes. Always check your sales history and how your product will be shipped in the logged-in area of the website or app.
