The project will carry out checks related to the regions of Campinas, Piracicaba, São Carlos, Ribeirão Preto and Sul de Minas
EPTV, a Globo affiliate in the interior of São Paulo and southern Minas Gerais, and g1 in the same coverage area announced the creation of the regional “fact or fake”. The launch will be at the forum “Between fact and fake: the challenges of information in elections”, promoted by the vehicles and Unicamp, with the aim of combating misinformation in the 2024 municipal electoral process.
The project will follow the national “fact or fake” methodology and will carry out checks related to the regions of Campinas, Piracicaba, São Carlos, Ribeirão Preto and Sul de Minas.
The forum will be attended by Diogo Rais, judge and representative of the Regional Electoral Court of São Paulo, specialist in digital and electoral law, and author of books on fake news and disinformation; Claudia Wanderley, Josianne Cerasoli and Ewerton Machado, members of the Disinformation Observatory created by Unicamp; Ricardo Gallo, national coordinator of “fact or fake” at g1; and Lana Torres, journalism manager for the g1 pages in the EPTV coverage area.
“We are combining the practical side of professional checking with the academic discussion of the Unicamp Disinformation Observatory, whose researchers will share their studies on fake news. We are also bringing the Regional Electoral Court to clarify how they are preparing to combat disinformation at the polls and help the public understand the effects that fake news has on society”, says Gabriela Delman, journalism manager at EPTV Campinas.
