Action is a partnership between Sandoz and the Leiturinha project
The pharmaceutical company Sandoz launched a children’s magazine about antimicrobial resistance produced by the Leiturinha project, the largest children’s book subscription program in Brazil.
The comic tells the story of superheroes from a fictional city who protect the population from the threat of superbugs, while at the same time informing children and families about the dangers of inappropriate use of medicines, especially antibiotics.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health problem and occurs when microorganisms become resistant to the drugs that normally act to combat them, antibiotics, creating superbugs and causing a serious public health problem. In Brazil, since the 2019 pandemic, cases of AMR infections have increased, due to hospital overload and the increase in the indiscriminate use of antibiotic medications.
“Initiatives like this one with Leiturinha help us in this mission, guiding society on the best practices to avoid the proliferation of superbugs and superorganisms in general”, says Cleber Sato, medical director at Sandoz.
The magazine is available on the website and in the offices of pediatricians and pediatric endocrinologists.
