Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world’s largest transportation company, will carry out a solidarity initiative this winter, donating 5,650 blankets made from the recycling of more than 13,000 pieces of unused uniforms belonging to its employees in Brazil. The action will benefit institutions that support people in situations of social vulnerability and animal protection, with a special focus on the population affected by heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul.
Since its first edition in 2015, the FedEx Uniform Recycling Program has produced 32,000 blankets from 81,600 pieces of clothing, totaling almost 26 tons of reused fabrics. The initiative is part of FedEx Cares, a global community engagement program. In addition to promoting the solidarity economy, the program supports the company’s social and environmental efforts, benefiting more than 60 NGOs throughout Brazil.
In this 9th edition, 4,600 blankets will be donated to people, and 1,050 smaller units will benefit animals. Approximately 65% of the donations will be directed to Rio Grande do Sul, with 3,000 blankets going to the Salvation Army and 700 smaller units to animal protection organizations. The remainder will be distributed to NGOs indicated by employees in other regions of the country.
“The FedEx Uniform Recycling Program reflects our purpose of positively impacting the communities where we operate, and our commitment to minimizing the impacts of our operations on the environment,” said Gabriel Kayser, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at FedEx.
In addition to supporting sustainability and the well-being of the communities we serve, FedEx is committed to achieving carbon-neutral global operations by 2040. This initiative reinforces the company’s role in contributing to social and environmental causes, while promoting the reuse of materials.
