Platform research reveals that 75% of consumers would complete purchases if there was a discount coupon or promotion
Mercado Livre announced the Desconto between July 5th and 14th with discounts of up to 70% on thousands of selected products through an action in São Paulo and Recife.
Consumers can see giant boxes installed in front of Shopping Cidade São Paulo, on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, and in Parque Jaqueira, in Recife, Pernambuco, with exclusive coupons and a QR Code that takes them to the promotions page within the Mercado Livre platform.
The move is in line with a survey conducted by the company, which revealed that 53% of respondents make online purchases monthly. The study also indicates that 72% have the habit of filling their virtual shopping carts and abandoning these products. In view of this, to help consumers remove products from their wish list, the platform is promoting the Descontaço until July 14th.
According to the survey, 50% of respondents abandon their shopping carts in order to save them to make a purchase at another time, and 44% return to complete the purchase later. Among the main reasons for abandoning a shopping cart is the high shipping cost or delivery time (41%).
“It is interesting to note that 75% of consumers say they would complete their purchases if there was a discount coupon or promotion, and almost 30% wait for promotional dates on their favorite e-commerce sites to purchase that product that was abandoned in their cart. This is a great insight for us, and with this in mind, we spread giant Mercado Livre boxes with “abandoned” products in carts, to encourage the redemption of desired items with the promotions and coupons available on Descontaço”, explains Cesar Hiraoka, marketing director at Mercado Livre.
