Piece created by Calia focuses on reducing inequalities related to breastfeeding support
The Ministry of Health launched the World Breastfeeding Week 2024 campaign to strengthen actions across the country and reduce inequalities related to breastfeeding support.
Created by Calia and produced by Ellah Filmes, the play has the theme “Breastfeeding, support in all situations” and is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals aimed at guaranteeing the survival and well-being of children.
This year’s campaign aims to guarantee the right to breastfeeding, with special attention to lactating women in vulnerable situations, in addition to supporting breastfeeding in states of emergency, public calamity and natural disasters. The Ministry of Health coordinates this global initiative nationally, the main social mobilization action in favor of breastfeeding.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), around six million children’s lives are saved each year due to increased rates of exclusive breastfeeding until the sixth month of life. In partnership with the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP), the World Breastfeeding Week advocates for the population to be informed about the inequalities in the support and prevalence of breastfeeding.
