The 2000s were full of weird fashions that we loved… Anyone who didn’t have an embarrassing photo wearing striped gloves or slicked-back hair wasn’t in fashion. In headphones, emo bands and pop punk singers helped shape our personality. But apparently, they are back (to the delight of some and the terror of others)!
Olivia Rodrigo, Avril Lavigne, Oliver Sykes and even Anitta have already shown looks very similar to the ones that were fever in the past. And it’s not just the looks: the music is back too.
Olivia Rodrigo was successful with her hit “Good 4 U”, which generated numerous comparisons with the song “Misery Business” by the emo band Paramore. In addition, Oliver Sykes, lead singer of Bring Me The Horizon, has also released albums with an atmosphere very similar to Linkin Park’s “Meteora” album; a good example is the track “Teardrops” from the album “Post Human”.
Avril Lavigne has not been replaced by anyone (except for the conspirators). On the contrary: she herself took the microphone and re-dressed the image she had built up over the past decades. Recently, she released her album “Love Sux”, in a very emo girl vibe.
Anitta has already established herself in the music scene beyond funk. The single “Boys Don’t Cry” had a visual aesthetic that drew comparisons to the looks of Evanescence frontman Amy Lee in the Fallen era (who didn’t sing “Bring Me To Life as a teenager?).
Whether the fad will be a fad remains to be seen, but for now, audiences are loving being able to relive so many memories with their favorite past and current artists!
