Here’s a tip: most dads love an old-school action movie – and a politically incorrect one, lol. So here are my suggestions for movies that were huge hits when your dad was your age, lol. All the big names from that era are here – from Stallone to Will Smith. It’s even worth a suggestion to watch one of them with your dad on his day next Sunday.
Falcon: The Champion of Champions (87) – Globoplay/ Looke
This movie combines action with a father-son story, so it’s perfect for Father’s Day, lol. Lincoln Hawk (Sylvester Stallone) is a truck driver who tries to rebuild his life after the death of his wife. He tries to get back together with his son, Michael (David Mendenhall), from whom he had been estranged years ago. The boy doesn’t pay much attention to his father, until he signs up for a national arm wrestling championship held in Las Vegas.
End of Days (99) – Disney Plus
Jericho Cane (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a bitter bodyguard who lost his wife and daughter in a terrorist attack. In the last days of 1999, one of his clients, a banker (Gabriel Byrne), is ambushed. In the investigation that follows, Cane discovers the macabre plot of a cult that awaits the arrival of Satan and has chosen Christine York (Robin Tunney) to bear the child of darkness. He must now do everything he can to protect her and prevent the end of times.
Armageddon (98) – Disney Plus
An asteroid the size of Texas is on a collision course with our planet. The asteroid is approaching Earth, and if it hits, all life on Earth will cease to exist, just like what wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. With only 18 days left until the Earth collides with the asteroid, the only possible solution is to send astronauts in a space shuttle to the surface of the place and detonate a bomb there by remote control. To accomplish this mission, the most famous deep-sea oil driller (Bruce Willis) in the world is called upon. He demands that his team be formed with technicians who behave in a very unconventional way by government standards. Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck also star in the cast.
Maximum Risk (96) – Netflix
Police officer Alain Moreau (Jean-Claude Van Damme) investigates the death of his twin brother in New York. Taking his place, he meets his brother’s beautiful girlfriend and her problems. The two team up to solve the mystery of the death and find themselves racing against the Russian mafia and renegade FBI agents, before an international conspiracy is unleashed.
Braddock: The Super Commando (84) – Prime Video/ Globoplay
James Braddock (Chuck Norris) is an American officer who spent 7 years in North Vietnam as a prisoner of war, and then managed to escape. After a bloody war, he follows the government investigations that reach Hoh Chi Minh City to check if the reports that American soldiers are still prisoners are true. Braddock then travels to Thailand to meet Tucker (M. Emmet Walsh), an old friend from the army. Together, they will go deep into the Vietnamese jungle on a mission to rescue American soldiers.
Bad Boys (95) – Netflix
Officers Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Lowrey (Will Smith) are tasked with finding a stolen shipment of heroin. A witness calls the police station claiming to be able to identify the thief. The quiet Burnett pretends to be Lowrey so as not to lose the case and ends up having to protect the woman, while his womanizing partner takes care of his family. The 5th film, Bad Boys: Last Blood premiered in theaters this year.
