SBT founder was hospitalized for a month at Albert Einstein Hospital
Silvio Santos died on Saturday morning (17), in São Paulo. The communicator was 93 years old and had been hospitalized for about a month at the Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo. The news was confirmed by SBT in a post on social media.
“Today the sky is happy with the arrival of our beloved Silvio Santos. He lived 93 years to bring happiness and love to all Brazilians,” the broadcaster said in a note published on Instagram.
Born on December 12, 1930, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Senor Abravanel already demonstrated a talent for business by selling products as a street vendor. He began his career in communications with work on the radio as an announcer, and in 1963, he created the Silvio Santos Program – one of the longest-running programs on Brazilian television. In 1981, he created his own television network, SBT. In the last two years he was away from TV, handing over the command of his program to his daughter Patrícia Abravanel.
In addition to his career as a presenter, Silvio was an entrepreneur and was in charge of the Silvio Santos Group’s businesses, including Baú da Felicidade, Banco Pan-Americano and the cosmetics brand Jequiti.
Silvio leaves behind his wife, journalist and novelist Íris Abravanel, and his daughters Cintia, Silvia, Daniela, Patrícia, Rebeca and Renata.
