The death of Silvio Santos this Saturday (17), in São Paulo, caused a wave of commotion throughout the country. Numerous artists, media professionals in general, entities in the communications market, and competing broadcasters, such as Globo and Band, mourned the departure of the founder of SBT, who issued notes of condolence, recognizing Silvio’s legacy for television. Advertisers and advertising agencies also expressed their gratitude for the greatest presenter on Brazilian TV.
Honoring a request from the great communicator, Silvio’s family will not hold an open wake, only a closed Jewish ceremony. He had been hospitalized at the Albert Einstein Hospital for almost a month. President Lula declared official mourning in Brazil for three days.

On the morning of Saturday, August 17, Globo released a note of condolence for the death of presenter Silvio Santos: “Brazil says goodbye today with sadness to a man passionate about communication and one of its greatest exponents. We thank Silvio for everything he did for Brazilian television and send our affection to his family, friends, collaborators and fans.”
One of the main icons of Brazilian entertainment, culture and entrepreneurship, Silvio Santos has a story that inspires us all with his determination and joy. He leaves us with countless fond memories and a TV station that is one of the most important channels for connecting with the Brazilian public, as well as a fundamental partner for the entire communications industry. In this time of grief, Publicis Groupe expresses its solidarity with his family and friends, with our colleagues at SBT and with all the people who smiled with Silvio over so many decades.
Silvio and mass communication in Brazil are practically inseparable elements. He helped create a communication model that inspired other communicators who came after him and that even contributed to the consolidation of TV as a central element of Brazilian culture in recent decades. While we express our deepest condolences to the Abravanel family, we honor the legacy that Silvio leaves for Brazil. I am certain that this legacy will continue to be alive among all those who have been inspired by this national icon over the years.
