A survey carried out by the NetCos agency shows that Gabrielzinho, from swimming, was the athlete who gained the most followers
The influencer marketing agency NetCos released a survey that identified the 10 athletes with the greatest growth in their follower base in the first week of the Paralympic Games. Gabriel Araújo, known as Gabrielzinho, was the athlete who gained the most followers. The swimmer increased his base by 237 thousand followers, a number higher than the sum of the other nine athletes who follow him in the top ten ranking. In the survey, he reached 359 thousand followers in the first week and currently has 389 thousand followers.
“Social media has shown great support for Paralympic sports. Accelerated by Brazil’s strong campaign in this edition of the games, the visibility of athletes has increased significantly. The growth in followers is a reflection of the impact of media exposure, combined with the athletes’ sporting performance and personal narratives on their social networks,” explains Marta Cardoso, head of data at NetCos.
Another highlight is Vinicius Rodrigues, from athletics, who had the second biggest growth with 370 thousand followers in the first week and, today, with 381 thousand.
The top ten includes athletes from four categories: swimming, athletics, canoeing and taekwondo, with a special mention for athletics, which has six athletes at the top. The Brazilian athletics delegation is made up of 68 athletes and 16 guide athletes.
The ten Paralympic athletes who gained the most followers gained more than 414 thousand new followers on their profiles. This figure is equivalent to 2.4% of the more than 17 million followers gained by the top 10 athletes at the Olympics after the first week.
