Samsung has unveiled its new SmartThings campaign with the creation of a new episode of “Chaves” in partnership with Grupo Chespirito, highlighting the company’s connectivity solutions across Latin America. The film, created by Cheil Brasil and produced by Sentimental, will be broadcast throughout Latin America.
“We want to demonstrate that home connectivity is within everyone’s reach in an easy way, using a narrative that explores consumers’ memories and emotions. What once seemed like magic is now innovation through SmartThings,” says Ilca Sierra, Samsung’s CMO for Latin America.
The play was inspired by one of the classic episodes of the series, in which Chaves, Chiquinha and Kiko believe they have invaded the house of Dona Clotilde – the “Witch of 71” – leading them to go through several frightening situations and, in the end, it is revealed that they were just in the trio’s imagination. In the film, Samsung technology brings the story to life, with Chaves and Chiquinha finally entering Dona Clotilde’s house for the first time. The characters encounter unexpected events, such as the door opening by itself, curtains closing by themselves, the temperature of the room suddenly dropping and the lights turning off without warning. But what they don’t know is that these events are actually controlled by Dona Clotilde using the SmartThings app to keep intruders away.
The set details were designed to evoke fans’ memories of the beloved TV show. The colors, objects and lighting faithfully reproduce the original village as seen in the 1977 recordings. Classic music and sounds, such as the eerie howl inside the Witch’s house, were restored from the original phonograms provided by Grupo Chespirito. The recordings were made in Spanish and dubbed into Portuguese for the Brazilian market – just like the original production.
