The Flow Group, a digital media ecosystem, through Flow News, will hold an electoral debate with candidates for mayor of São Paulo, mediated by journalist Carlos Tramontina. The broadcast will be live and will take place on Monday (23), at 7 pm, on the Flow and Flow News channels. The project is carried out in partnership with the Nexo Group, from the USP Law School.
The candidates invited to the debate are: Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), José Luiz Datena (PSDB), Marina Helena (Novo), Pablo Marçal (PRTB), Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and Tabata Amaral (PSB). Participants will answer questions focusing on the areas of health, education, public safety, accessibility, transportation and the homeless population.
The debate will last approximately two hours and will be divided into three blocks of questions and answers, with one block for final considerations. The topic of the editorial will be presented and then the two candidates will be drawn, with the first having two minutes to answer questions from experts and voters, while the second will have one and a half minutes to comment. The right to reply, when granted, will be 45 seconds. Insults, offenses and name-calling will not be permitted, and the participant may be removed after the third warning. The pre- and post-debate live broadcast will feature the participation of Igor Coelho, founder of Grupo Flow and host of the Flow Podcast, as well as journalists Helen Braun and Madeleine Lacsko.
According to Igor Coelho, founder of Grupo Flow, the idea is to continue with the purpose of defending critical thinking through active listening. “With this vision, Flow Podcast received, in 2022, Lula and Bolsonaro, reaching 9.7 and 16 million views, respectively. We believe that, to understand the world, we need to be curious and able to form our own opinions from different points of view”, he comments.
For Carlos Tramontina, the format offers an opportunity to break away from tradition and bring the public closer together. “We went to the streets in search of issues that really matter to voters. That’s why the rules were drawn up with the aim of supporting them in choosing their candidate and avoiding any kind of friction. We believe that a respectful dialogue with relevant information is essential to strengthen democracy and help the population make a well-informed decision,” concludes the journalist.
