Measure is retaliation for Russian invasion of Ukraine
In an official statement, the organization of D&AD decided to exclude from this year’s festival all registrations from advertisers and agencies from Russia, as a measure against the War in Ukraine, initiated by President Vladimir Putin.
On February 28, a few days after the Russian invasion, D&AD released a statement in which it stated that it was accepting submissions from Russia, and that the money raised would go to Ukraine’s creative community.
“As the conflict continued to escalate at an alarming rate over the past week, we have reconsidered our position and taken the decision to remove all Russian nominations from the awards,” it said.
The decision comes on the heels of Cannes Lions, which last week announced it would not accept entries from Russian agencies and advertisers for this year’s edition of the festival. In addition, the organization banned all delegates from Russia from this year’s festival.
We intend to keep our lines of communication open with our Russian counterparts who oppose the war in Ukraine. We will refund your application fees, including to Sangue Novo Awards students and tutors, where possible.
We stand categorically against the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the terrible violence inflicted on the Ukrainian people.
