Journalist spent 26 years as anchor at Jornal Nacional; Cid Moreira treated chronic renal failure
Brazilian television lost one of its main names this Thursday (3). Journalist and presenter, Cid Moreira died at the age of 97 in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, where he was being treated for chronic kidney failure.
Born in Taubaté (SP), Cid Moreira had one of the most unmistakable voices in Brazil. The journalist began his career as a narrator on the radio stations Difusora de Taubaté, Bandeirantes and Mayrink Veiga, but it was on television that he established himself as an icon of journalism.
From Jornal Nacional, Cid Moreira was one of the longest-serving presenters, with 26 years on the bench, which made him say the famous ‘Good night’ around eight thousand times. In addition to this milestone, Cid also participated in “Fantástico” in its debut, in 1973.
In 2010, his story was recorded in a biography written by his wife, with the title ‘Good Night – Cid Moreira, the Great Voice of Communication in Brazil’.
In a statement, Abert (Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters) lamented the journalist’s death. “Cid Moreira leaves a huge gap in Brazilian broadcasting. The ability to communicate with the public is a legacy that remains in the country’s communication history”, said the note.
