The UK government announced on Thursday (10) sanctions against Russian oligarchs, including Roman Abramovich, owner of the English club.
Chelsea’s main sponsor, telecoms brand Three, is in talks with the English club on the future of the £40m-a-year deal. According to The Drum, suspicion has been raised of alleged links between Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and President Vladimir Putin.
In addition, this Thursday (10) – the day the club celebrates 117 years – the UK Government announced a series of sanctions against Russian oligarchs, among which is Abramovich.
For Chelsea, for example, the sanctions will not allow the club to sell tickets for upcoming games or team products in its physical store, which must be closed.
Three’s sponsorship, which closed in January last year, puts the brand’s logo on the jerseys of all Chelsea categories, including women’s teams, youth teams and esports matches.
