Make B., Boticário’s makeup brand, launches the first line of affordable articulated brushes in Brazil. The products were co-created with Comunidade Beleza Livre, the first collective of diverse people organized for the co-development of products.
According to the brand, the objective of the new line is to promote high performance and democratization of makeup through a sophisticated and functional design. The articulated mechanism is what makes the Make B. line brushes more accessible and can be used with more precision by all people, including those with motor limitations in the upper limbs.
The line consists of five brushes: foundation (in duo fiber and kabuki versions), powder, blush and spiral (ideal for finishes), and are available in all Boticário sales channels.
In addition to the articulated mechanism, the bases of the brushes have tactile markings to facilitate identification by blind or visually impaired people, expanding the product’s inclusion.
According to the brand, the products were developed during 4 years of research and in collaboration with people with disabilities, they represent a significant advance in accessibility.
According to data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD Contínua), from 2022, the population with disabilities in Brazil was estimated at 18.6 million, considering people aged 2 years or over – which corresponds to 8.9 % of the population in this age group.
“More than a launch, Make B.’s line of affordable articulated brushes is a milestone in the democratization of beauty. We believe that makeup needs to be accessible and inclusive and, therefore, we seek to develop innovative products that particularly meet the needs of this audience”, comments Vanessa Machado, director of Gifts and Accessories at Grupo Boticário.
Co-creation with the Beleza Livre Community was fundamental to the development of the product. In partnership with the research institute Ipsos, the online community of diverse people had the function of connecting the products developed by Grupo Boticário to Brazilian diversity at different stages of the process, declares the company.
“This is the main initiative to fulfill our commitment, in the future, to offer a portfolio of new and existing, inclusive and diverse products, considering the needs of different people”, explains Rony Santos, Senior ESG Manager at Grupo Boticário.
Vanessa also adds that continuous interactions were made with people with disabilities, considering aspects such as shape, weight, length, thickness and ease of use, pointing to specific needs so that the brushes were inclusive and practical.
“The positive response during the tests and the emotion of those who tried the brushes demonstrate the real impact that accessibility and inclusion can generate. With the line of affordable articulated brushes, Make B. reaffirms its pioneering spirit in the beauty market, combining high performance, technology and purpose to create a more inclusive future”, concludes the executive.
