HBO Max and Discovery+ will be merged soon. The two streams will become one, with the catalog from one being passed to the other. The information came from the CFO of the two companies, Gunnar Wiedenfels. The announcement took place last Monday, March 14, at a conference in Florida, United States.
The news is not exactly a novelty. With the two services belonging to the same conglomerate and even being headed by the same executive, several rumors grew about the merger of streamings and pointed to the measure as a matter of time before it was officially announced.
Wiedenfels also revealed that the directors are investigating the best way to merge HBO Max with Discovery+. The idea is to find a way to bundle content from both platforms into one. It is important to note that the idea of the merger is not to offer different plans or combos to subscribers to have access to full content, according to the executive.
The CFO of HBO Max and Discovery+ commented:
“One of the most important items here is that we believe in a combined product rather than a package. We believe the breadth and depth of content offered will be a phenomenal and valuable proposition for the consumer.”
He also recalled that the measure will probably take time to actually happen. According to Gunnar, this is an action that will take a few months, not just a few weeks. Until everything is put into practice, WarnerMedia should promote some interim measure for subscribers, both HBO Max and Discovery Plus.
According to information from the executive himself, the measure will affect more than 100 million subscribers to both streams around the world. In Brazil, HBO Max and Discovery Plus arrived in 2021 and are still active normally.
