After the growing controversy that the film How to Become the Worst Student in School faced in recent days, the Ministry of Justice censored the title held in 2017 and classified it as an “apology for pedophilia” for a scene where an adult man (Fábio Porchat) asks two boys to masturbate him.
The decision was taken by the minister Anderson Torres on their social networks with an excerpt from an order from the Official Gazette of the Union. Bolsonaro supporters claim that the film is harmful and normalizes scandalous scenes.
Torres also announced that all streams that host the film must be removed from the catalog as soon as possible, under penalty of a daily fine of R$50,000. Today, How to Become the Worst Student in School is present on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Telecine Play, Globoplay, YouTube and Apple TV+.

The decision was controversial and divided opinion on the internet. Government supporters declare the work dangerous and criminal. Already some opponents claim that the scene is a criticism taken out of context, and bringing this discussion five years after the film’s release is a “smokescreen” for bigger problems in the country. Porchat and Gentilli defended themselves in the nets.
“Come on: how does a fiction film work? Someone writes a script and people are hired to act in that movie. Generally, the movie has the good guy and the bad guy. The villain is a bad character. That does horrible things. The villain is a bad character. That does horrible things. The villain can be a Nazi, a racist, a pedophile, a bully, he can kill and torture people,” he said.
Danilo Gentilli said: “The scene in question is exactly about a person who presents himself as the best student in the school, who would be an authority, asking abject and absurd things for students, who do not obey the guy just because he is an authority. . So, in fact, at no point does the film make an apology for pedophilia. The film villainizes pedophilia.”
Journalists such as César Tralli stated that the censorship decision is unconstitutional and ends up infringing the ninth item of the fifth article of the Constitution. So far, Anderson Torres’ decision remains in effect.
