Fans of The Witcher game franchise had a more than good surprise this Monday, March 21st. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it is officially producing a new game for the saga. Also according to the company, the new title of the franchise will be produced using the Unreal Engine 5, known for its graphic resources.
It is also worth mentioning that the next The Witcher will be produced in partnership with Epic Games, the same developer of Fortnite. The two companies will form a partnership and help each other create an open world using the new production technology. Still, it’s important to remember that the game won’t be an Epic Games Store exclusive.
It is not yet known what the story of the new game or greater details of production will be. The only thing revealed by CD Projekt was an image where fans can see a medallion thrown in the snow and the phrase saying “A new saga begins”. The curiosity is also to know if this will be the 4th game in chronological order or a derivative of the series.
The last game in the franchise released by the studio was the acclaimed The Witcher 3. The game was produced through REDengine and won several awards, in addition to having won over the public. The production was known for innovating and marking the market for open world RPG games, with a living world and several side missions.
The change in the production tool is a milestone since REDengine was used since the second game in the franchise and in the most recent title released by the studio, Cyberpunk 2077. Although the engine used is different for the next game (and if all goes well , probably for future productions), the former will continue to be used for expansions of previous games.
As the new game of The Witcher saga was announced yesterday, information such as the release date or even when new information will be made available is not yet known. Until then, fans of the franchise can have fun playing the latest games or even watching the live action series produced by Netflix.
