Seeds are from 27 tree species native to the local biome and do not need human intervention to germinate.
Audi do Brasil promoted an action with parachutist Luigi Cani to sow the deforested region of the Amazon with more than 100 million seeds.
The seeds are from 27 species of trees native to the local biome.
“The seeds collected for the project have a germination index greater than 95% and do not require human intervention to germinate, so in a few years we will see the fruits of this action”, said Cani.
More than 3,700 kilos of materials and equipment were shipped by boat to the municipality of Novo Aripuanã while other actions were carried out with the Audi e-tron, Audi’s 100% electric vehicle, on the ground.
For the jump, a biodegradable wooden box with more than 1m³ and 300 kg of seeds was launched from an aircraft at 14 thousand feet and, when he reached 6500 feet of the deforested area, Luigi Cani dived at 300 km/h, reaching the box in free fall and released the seeds at the correct height to ensure accurate and uniform distribution.
“Audi do Brasil has invested in projects that are capable of promoting the brand’s values through actions that benefit and generate a legacy for society”, celebrated Cláudio Rawicz, responsible for the marketing and communication area at Audi do Brasil.
In addition to the 100 million seeds distributed in the air in the deforested region, another six million seeds were delivered to an indigenous community in the state of Amazonas that needed the resources.
Audi will also install solar energy poles and deliver lamps to riverside communities in the Amazon region in April, through a partnership with the Audi Environmental Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AUDI AG, and the NGO Litro de Luz.
