E3, one of the biggest gaming-related events in the world, has been cancelled. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which organizes the event, announced the decision last Wednesday, March 31, revealing that there will also be no online version of E3. The decision confirms rumors that were circulating for some time.
Still, in a note released by the organization they reveal that the event will take place again next year, 2023. It is worth mentioning that the festival was being held online last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision not to hold the event in person once again is also related to the virus, as the organization did not evaluate the event as safe.
Check out the note about the realization of E3:
“It had already been announced that E3 would not be held in person in 2022 due to ongoing health risks from COVID-19. Today, we are announcing that there will also be no digital version of E3 in 2022. Instead, we will devote all of our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital experience at E3 next summer. Whether enjoying the fair itself or your favorite devices, the 2023 release will bring the community, media and industry together in a whole new format and interactive experience.”
E3 normally took place in June. The event was marked by the announcement of new productions from the largest video game studios in the world, in addition to the reveal of trailers and gameplays. The Summer Game Fest, an event organized by the creator of The Game Awards, also takes place in the middle of the year, however, this will be done in person this time.
