A Netflix is currently looking to bolster its business by exploring other content opportunities. According to The Washington Post, video games are a specific focus and Netflix aims to offer around 50 phones for people to play games by the end of the year.
After the announcement that it intended to explore the space last July, the platform has been focusing more on games. It has since hired a number of different executives in key positions in recent months. At the same time, Netflix released mobile games like “Stranger Things: 1984”. Video games have become fertile ground for the company. Not only did it turn shows like Stranger Things into mobile games, but it also adapted popular game franchises like League of Legends into shows like Arcane.
The news comes after the revelation that Netflix lost over a third of these valued stocks on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. It is reported to have lost over 700,000 subscribers after pulling Netflix out of Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.
In turn, the company attributed the loss of subscribers to competitors such as Hulu and Disney+, in addition to the practice of sharing passwords. Netflix owns Texas-based mobile studio Boss Fight Entertainment, Next Games, located in Finland, and Night School Studio, which operates in California.
