Twitch is the leading live streaming platform today. There are numerous categories such as games, sports, conversations, readings, so on… The opportunities there have grown so much in recent years that many youtubers are already dedicated mostly or just to lives, such as Alanzoka, Cellbit, etc.
ADNEWS brought that kick-start for those who are not yet familiar with the site, you can check out our guide to spectators here.
If for you to watch someone brings you that emotion of wanting to produce content too, calm down! Here’s a guide to the basics you need to know to stream on Twitch. Who knows, maybe you’ll see the next Casimiro?
platforms
You can stream from PC or consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Even smartphones are an option. Check out how to start a live on each one:
PC
On your computer, log into your Twitch account and download the Twitch Studio, following the instructions on the screen. An audio and video transmission program is required, the most common is Xsplit Gamecaster.
Download Xsplit Gamecaster and go to Accounts > Live Stream > Twitch and set up your information. Then the “settings” tab will show the available settings for the live. Then open the game (Xsplit should recognize it). With the Twitch button, give the stream a name and configure chat settings. Then just click cast to get started!
PS4
Install the Twitch app from the PS Store. Then open the game and press the “share” button on the controller. Select the Twitch option, enter the live title and description, adjust the camera and microphone and you are ready to go! For those who do not connect the console to the computer and want to stream on TV, PlayStation has special equipment such as a camera and microphones that bring more interactivity to the live.
Xbox One
Install the app and then open the game you want to stream. Then go back to the Twitch app and select Cast. Choose the title of the live and click on “start broadcast”.
Smartphones
Download Twitch from the Play Store or App Store. After logging in, select your live category and title. Then click on “start streaming”. Important: For the broadcast to work, leave your cell phone horizontal and follow the participants who enter to watch.
Equipment
Technically, you can stream with your cell phone camera and a microphone for R$15.00. However, if you plan something more professional and aesthetically pleasing, there are a few options:
-Softwares: as mentioned above, software programs are required to sync the camera, microphone and capture card. Twitch Studio already manages to fulfill this role well.
-Platforms: Whether you’ve chosen a PlayStation or your computer, it’s important that your choice has the necessary settings for good performance. The recommended is a minimum of 8GB RAM, i15 processor and, of course, a stable internet connection.
-Camera: Not all streamers use cameras (some create good lives with just screen sharing and their microphones). However, if you want to use this device, invest in a good webcam, as the ones that are already included in notebooks or computers have limited performance.
-MIC: The same goes for the microphone. The computer’s audio capture will not always have quality. In the case of consoles like the PS4, it is necessary to have a headset with a microphone. Still, just in case, invest in a good standalone microphone.
-Other tools: Having good software, wifi, camera and microphone, you already have the basics to create a decent live on Twitch. Even so, if you want to be a real pro, there are countless devices and tools that add your live like green screen (chroma key) to change or remove the background, stream decks to add sounds in the live, led lighting to give that gamer touch, etc.
Monetization
This is a good way to earn income while generating content. Remember: the best way to make money on Twitch is to engage with your audience and earn their affection. There are several ways to make money with your lives, such as:
-Donations
-Subs (explained here)
-Sponsors
The amounts are made by an international transfer from the United States. Therefore, many must be converted from US dollars. Pay attention to the ways to withdraw the money and also the refund policies in case someone has donated to your live by mistake or in a greater amount than desired.
