Elden Ring’s toughest boss, Malenia, was accidentally hampered by a previous patch, allowing her to recover health from attacks even when they made contact with nothing but air. However, a new update has fixed this, which means it will be really fair when she cuts you off in under 10 seconds and mocks her lifeless corpse.
According to the patch notes for Update 1.04, which you can read in full below, the update “fixed a bug with Malenia, Blade of Miquella where your HP did not heal properly in the online multiplayer environment.” Malenia should recover health when making contact with an enemy – either dealing damage or hitting a shield – but because of the bug, you could be on the other side of the boss room and she would still recover health. Given her two phases and the ability to kill him with just a good string of attacks, this made the fight impossible.
Other changes include a vague fix for a bug that “caused some bosses to die at unintended moments”, meaning your cheesy days may be coming to an end. The final boss encounter also had a bug fixed that prevented it from “working properly”. Knowing of the Software, this probably means that it will now kill you in one hit.
Elden Ring is currently the best selling game of 2022 in the US. In the last 12 months, it has only lost to Call of Duty: Vanguard.
