The Batman sequel has finally been confirmed by Warner. Director Matt Reeves returns to helm production and help write the screenplay, in addition to bringing Robert Pattinson back in the lead role. Taking into account the elements presented by the first film, we have separated 5 things we would like to see in the continuation of the franchise.
Bruce Wayne most active
In The Batman, we have a reclusive Bruce Wayne traumatized by the events of his past. As the film progresses, we see him reflect on his scars and how they can make you stronger if you survive them. Not only that, but Pattinson’s character also begins to understand his role in Gotham and how he can help the city beyond street surveillance.
These concepts can help the protagonist create the Bruce Wayne persona that is closer to the concept fans are used to in other media. It would be nice if in the sequel we saw a character who was socially active and used his resources as a billionaire in favor of the city, continuing the development started in the first film.
Robin
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Robin appear in the Batman movies. The last time the character appeared was in the disastrous Batman and Robin (1997), in which he was played by Chris O’Donnell. Still, the character hasn’t ceased to be an important part of the character’s mythology for nearly a century.
Robert Pattinson has already shown interest in making a movie with Robin, and although the character might not appear formed and acting, it is possible to start introducing him, showing his origins and the beginning of his relationship with Batman. The main question for this would be the ideal age to seem suitable for the universe created by Matt Reeves.
Gotham sob a neve
The Batman is a visually beautiful film. All the care taken by the technical team to build a remarkable setting that would give the right feeling during the film is noticeable. Therefore, it is expected that the sequel will also bring a show of setting.
A good idea to continue the Batman story would be to revitalize the concept brought by Tim Burton in Batman Returns (1992). The film, which like all of the director brings a unique aesthetic vision, decided to put Gotham in a Christmas mood, with snow dominating the scenario. The idea is not only beautiful visually, but could also serve as a contrast to the first feature, which takes place around Halloween.
Mr Cold
A much discussed point in all projects involving Batman are his villains. The Riddler and the Penguin were very well presented in Matt Reeves’ film, but what would be the ideal enemy for the bat man to fight in the continuation of his journey. One of the best options without a doubt would be Senhor Frio.
The last appearance of Victor Fries as an antagonist in a feature of the character was also in Batman and Robin. On that occasion the villain had a good-natured tone, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was not so striking in the role. Director Matt Reeves has already expressed interest in utilizing Mister Cold and the character has enough baggage to carry a movie as a main enemy.
With realism, but without diminishing the potential
One concept that has been discussed about Batman in recent years, particularly after the Christopher Nolan-directed trilogy, is how realistic projects should be. The cruder take on the hero that has been applied has pleased many, but it can be a limiting factor for interesting elements of the Batman mythology.
Matt Reeves seems to have followed a less extravagant line, with a very believable story in the eyes of viewers. Still, weighing in on realism can take away the opportunity to add villains that have fantastical elements, like Poison Ivy and Mister Cold himself. For sequels, we hope the filmmaker can balance his artistic vision without limiting the potential the stories can have.
