McDonald’s was the target of several criticisms this Friday morning (29) and decided to remove from the menu the sandwiches of the “McPicanha” line, after misleading advertising.
Being one of the noblest beef cuts, the fast-food chain admitted that the beef burgers did not have picanha in their composition, but only the sandwich sauce contained this flavor. McDonald’s was notified by Procon-SP and the Ministry of Justice and should explain itself in the coming days. Conar (National Council for Advertising Self-Regulation) will also investigate the advertising made about the line.
McDonald’s note in full:
“Starting this Friday (29), we are removing from the menu the two sandwiches of the “Novos McPicanha” line, in all restaurants in the country. We clarify that the recently launched platform called “Novos McPicanha” was named precisely to provide a new experience to the consumer with the exclusive picanha-flavored sauce, a new presentation and a different hamburger in composition and size (100% beef, produced with a blend of selected cuts and in the largest size currently offered by the chain). We apologize if the name chosen raised doubts and inform you that we are evaluating the next steps.“
negative reactions
On Twitter, several netizens showed indignation with the case and report that this is not the first time that the restaurant has been criticized for false advertising.
The main complaints point to the restaurant’s attempt to blame customers for “misinterpreting” the McPicanha line ads.
