The company, which was notified yesterday by Procon-SP, said that ‘people’s reaction is a very clear message’
Burger King has announced that the Rib Whopper is renamed Whopper Pork Palette. The change comes a day after the brand was involved in a controversy over the sandwich, whose nutritional description revealed that, instead of ‘rib’, it contains ‘pork palette’ and ‘100% natural pork rib flavor’.
The information came after social media users began raising the issue.
In a post on social media, published this Tuesday (3), BK said he was sorry for what happened and that ‘people’s reaction is a very clear message’.
“Time to listen, accept and act. No mincing words, no jokes, without relativizing the problem. That’s why we go public to say that we’re sorry for what happened and announce the immediate change of the name of the sandwich to Whopper Paleta Suína. sandwich remains the same, the composition of the hamburger remains 100% rib-flavored pork shoulder, without any artificial ingredients,” said Burger King.
As PROPMARK advanced yesterday, on account of the case, Burger King was notified by Procon-SP, which gave a deadline until Friday (06) for the company to explain about the composition and advertising campaign created for the sandwich.
In a press release, the consumer protection body also said that Burger King can be fined up to R$11.6 million if it is proven that the brand made misleading advertising and misled the consumer.
