Among the 23 Brazilians, considering jurors and president of the jury, there is only one black professional, Angerson Vieira, creative director of Africa
The announcement of the judges for the 2022 edition, last week, left a bitter taste for those who believe and want to see more diversity in advertising and in major market events. Among the 23 Brazilians, considering jurors and president of the jury, there is only one black professional, Angerson Vieira, creative director of Africa.
“The current composition of the jury reflects the industry,” the festival said in response to PROPMARK via email. “However, we recognize our role in shaping the agenda around DEI and promoting greater diversity in the industry,” he continued.
According to the organization, the 2022 festival will bring together the “most creative minds in the world” to address the lack of representation in the industry as a whole, globally. This year’s program, which will deal with topics considered “priority”, such as diversity and inclusion, would be an example of this movement.
“We have been working with a consultancy specializing in inclusion to review all processes from the perspective of diversity, equity and inclusion. This is an ongoing program of work that will make our juries more representative of society, year after year,” she added.
Market impact
Since the announcement, market professionals have questioned the lack of ethnic-racial diversity. Now, the Papel & Caneta collective has launched a action to get people to question Simon Cookpresident of the Festival, about the lack of representation among the Brazilian judges.
The initiative is supported by Chapa Preta, from Clube de Criação, Publicitários Negros and AUÊ, a creative hub of impact and cultural intelligence.
